Why choose Metal Core PCB?

The reason for choosing Metal Core PCB is its excellent heat dissipation performance, which is especially important for electronic equipment that requires effective cooling. It also provides good mechanical strength and electrical performance.

The manufacturing process of Metal Core PCB is similar to traditional PCB, but uses a metal substrate instead of a non-metal substrate. Fabrication steps include circuit patterning, metal substrate processing, printing, soldering and assembly.

Metal Core PCB Materials and Thickness

The core material of a thermal PCB can vary, including aluminum (referred to as aluminum core PCB), copper (known as copper core PCB or heavy copper PCB), or a blend of special alloys.

The aluminum core PCB is the most commonly used option. While materials like brass or steel are occasionally considered, they are not typically recommended due to their hardness, which can complicate the process of cutting the PCB into smaller pieces. When selecting metal PCB materials, it's important to consider factors such as the chemicals used in manufacturing and whether the metal is prone to react with them.

The thickness of the metal cores in PCB base plates typically ranges from 30 mil to 125 mil, although thicker and thinner plates are also possible.
